Oil prices are going up – level 2

17-06-2025 07:00

Oil prices went up fast after Israel said it attacked Iran. The price of Brent oil rose over 10%. People who buy and sell oil are worried about the conflict between Israel and Iran. They think it could stop oil from leaving the Middle East.

A lot of oil travels through a narrow waterway near Iran. If the fight damages oil areas in Iran, prices may go even higher. A similar price jump happened in 2022 when Russia attacked Ukraine. Saudi Arabia is watching and may give more oil to help.

More expensive oil makes many things cost more. Gasoline, food, and other products can become more expensive. Many companies are losing money now because they are afraid of what will happen next.

Difficult words: conflict (a fight or war), waterway (a river or sea path for ships), gasoline (petrol).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What outcome do oil traders fear could result from the conflict between Israel and Iran?
