India attacks Pakistan – level 3

09-05-2025 07:00

India has launched a military operation called Operation Sindoor targeting terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

According to the Indian government, these sites were used to plan attacks against India, including a recent deadly attack on tourists in Kashmir.

India says it was careful not to hit Pakistani military sites and aimed to avoid making the situation worse. The action, they claim, was focused and limited in nature. Explosions were reported in several areas, and power outages occurred in some places. Pakistan’s military confirmed the strikes and strongly condemned them, calling them cowardly. Pakistan also stated that its air force jets were flying and would choose the right time and place to respond.

Relations between the two nuclear-armed nations have been very tense, especially after last month’s attack. Both countries have a long history of conflict, particularly over Kashmir. Now the world is watching to see if things will calm down or escalate further.

Difficult words: in nature (in the type of character; what something is like), cowardly (showing fear or lack of courage), escalate (to make a problem or fight worse).

What reasons did the Indian government give for carrying out strikes on the identified terrorist sites?
